Mana whenua Co-ordinator
Mo te tūranga - The role
The Waiheke Marine Project (WMP) is founded on embodying Te Tiriti at the scale of Waiheke Island. This involves leaning into the discomfort of our history, embracing and enacting decolonisation and regenerating a future as tangata whenua and tangata tiriti together. Ngāti Pāoa ki Waiheke (NPKW) is a rōpu of ngā uri o Ngāti Pāoa with connections to the three hapū of Waiheke specifically and to Ngāti Pāoa generally. NPKW has autonomy within the WMP with its own funds, processes and priorities. These guide the WMP and set the pace of WMP activity. Two members of NPKW are on the steering group of the WMP and work with the Manawhenua Kaimahi to ensure Te Tiriti partnership is actively embodied.
The Manawhenua Kaimahi is thus a bridging role. The primary purpose is to enable the activation of NPKW goals and priorities throughout the WMP through the coordination of NPKW and ngā uri o Ngāti Pāoa activities, and being alert to ongoing activation of Te Tiriti in all WMP activities
