Community Beach Cleans 2025/2026
The first Beach Clean of 2026 was held at Palm Beach in Mawhitpana Bay on 3rd January
On 29th November 2025 we chose Palm Beach in Mawhitipana Bay for a short-notice clean
On 7th July a clean was arranged to coincide with the School Holidays which was supported by Waiheke Local Board.
July was the timing of the #plasticfreejuly campaign by Island Waste Collective & Waiheke Resources Trust
A pop-up beach clean was arranged in early June in response to the arrival of plastic beads on Oneroa Beach
There are more beach cleans in planning and are announced on our social channels
Community Beach Cleans return in 2024/25
Nau mai, haere mai ki te awhi me tautoko hoki, we welcome you to join us for a series of community beach clean ups around Waiheke! Facilitated by our Pipi Kairuruku - Beach Cleanup Coordinator, Maia Baillie
Thanks to the funding awarded by the Waiheke Local Board we have been able to add a coordinator to organise and run a series of beach cleans around Waiheke Island.
2024 Beach Clean Pipi Purpose:
To provide regular community and school-based beach clean-ups ~ To collect citizen science data to feed into local data systems ~ To engage youth in marine actions and use each clean as a tool to engage in further WMP actions.
Specifically, the project will achieve the following objectives:
Host at least 5 community and one mana whenua beach clean-ups across the island
Continue to build local database of collected rubbish
Support schools to engage with beach cleans
Engage with Regen divers to collaborate on Dive Cleanups
Set up a beach clean hub at WRT
Engage with the 700 Actions For Onetangi Project
